This time we were stumped as to where to go. We wanted a pretty garden setting but were sceptical we would find anything that special in our areas. Alas our lovely friend Oli from Sorry I’m Late blog recommended we check out Swaine Gardens where she had her wedding photos taken.

As Tashka and I saw the sign we walked down a long windy road we were sure was someone’s backyard. But as we continued along we finally emerged into this beautiful large garden that felt like The Secret Garden I had always dreamed about after reading the book when I was younger. With moss-covered stone staircases, flower bushes and a little creek, it was the perfect place to escape the bustling world next door.

Unfortunately the afternoon flew past and the sun went down too soon for our liking. Next time we’ll have to remember to start out long leisurely lunch a little earlier. But don’t worry, we are already planning our next afternoon shoot… Stay tuned.

My fabulous friend Sarah & I at Little Hero’s 5th Birthday Party during fashion week.

Well Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia has come and gone in the blink of an eye. And although the week didn’t start off on the best note with favourites Dion Lee and Josh Goot pulling out due to focusing on overseas schedules. In saying that though, I was quite impressed with the result from our local talent. Here are a selection of my favourite looks from this week:

Alice McCall
I absolutely adored this collection by Alice McCall. The large bold prints on the garments gave this Life on the Prairie-esque collection a modern edge. The adorable silhouettes were accentuated with delightful peplum’s and sheer detailing. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these!

Bec & Bridge
This collection to me is the essence of Australian fashion. It has a certain casual-elegance that Australian girls seem to do so well. Like a few collections showed this season, it seems that a feminine approach to the sporty trend is on the cards.

Ellery
I thought Kym Ellery gave us an especially sleek and modern collection. Despite some looks reminding me of Balenciaga’s A/W 12 collection, I loved almost every look and can see these pieces being popular worldwide.

Gail Sorronda
What a fun little collection! Sequins, Polka dots & Ruffles galore…

Ginger & Smart
I loved Ginger & Smart’s take on modern oriental style whilst creating classic, sleek tailored pieces. Perfect for a trans-seasonal look.

Jenny Kee
It has been 21 years since Jenny Kee’s last solo showing, and what a spectacle her return was. True to Kee’s Australiana aesthetic, the collection was an abundance of waratah, eucalyptus and koala references all clashing in an incredibly colour frenzy. Welcome back to a truly inspirational artist.

Magdalena Velevska
Magdalena conquered the concept of clean elegance. Lovely.

Michael Lo Sordo

Manning Cartell
I loved this collection from Manning Cartell. It was bold with her combination of navy sequins and dusty floral digital print dresses, and large pink bobble jumpers. This collection was filled with wearable pieces from feminine a-line skirts to sporty pants; there was something for everyone.

Romance Was Born
Romance Was Born was an obvious favourite. Their colourful comic-book inspired looks; they brought us an unusually commercial collection all of which I can’t wait to see on clothes racks around Australia. The collection however didn’t lack their usual fantastical punch.

Zimmerman
In true Zimmerman style, Nicky & Simone have created a modern, feminine collection for beach babes all over Australia. This collection had a prominent sporty aesthetic which made the pastel floral prints a little less girly.

Each image from ‘Light & Magic’ has been carefully constructed from the lighting right down to the vibrant flowers in Brynja’s hair. I love each image more than the last, and this editorial leaves my heart smiling the biggest smile. Stylist Gerard Angulo has showcased spring’s hottest trends of mint tweeds, white lace and metallic leather in a delightfully subtle way. Although I don’t feel this editorial is completely cohesive, I do think that each and every image is powerful and memorable in it’s own right.

In the latest isse of Lula Magazine my favourite creative duo Leith Clark and Ellen Von Unwerth create a fantastical circus themed editorial. Model Rasa Zukauskaite is dressed up in many a sparkly number by Miu Miu, Prada and Christopher Kane whilst making a few circus friends along the way. Both Leith and Ellen know how to create feminine images, without making them overtly girly and youthful. They make a perfect team.
